Anywhere in the world orphans are disadvantaged as compared to other
children, because they have no family to care for them, no mother or
father to parent them, no-one to receive love from. Orphans are
therefore facing more risks and more grievance than other kids.
Supporting orphans and truly helping them counts as a significant and
good deed in Islam. Prophet Muhammad (s) was sent to the people as
Allah's messenger, and besides transmitting the faith in the One God,
his task was also to address the social and human problems of his
society. Muhammad (s) was an orphan himself: His father died even before
his birth, while he lost his mother during early childhood.
Discrimination and subsequent negligence of orphans did not only exist
at the time of Prophet Muhammad (s), but are more relevant today than
ever. Therefore, the people of today must address themselves to the task
of helping orphans or disadvantaged children in every possible way.
